Megumi Masaki, pianist, with Video and Electroacoustics Special Premiere of New Short Film OCEAN VIEW, by Gary Kibbins

Award-winning pianist Megumi Masaki has established herself as an international artist renowned for her warmth and rapport with audiences and her superb musicianship. Her multi-faceted career as acclaimed soloist, chamber musician, champion of Contemporary music and pedagogue has taken her across Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia. In 2006, she made her film debut with musical performances in the CBC Documentary Film Appassionata: Eckhardt-Gramatté. In recent years, Megumi has been commissioning pieces for piano and video with fixed soundtrack or interactive electronics. Featured on this concert will be music by Patrick Carrabré, Keith Hamel, Brent Lee and Nicole Lizée with videos by visual artists Kevin Ei-ichi deForest and Sigi Torinus. Dr. Keith Hamel, a Queen’s BMus graduate and former faculty member, will be in attendance at this concert and is giving a colloquium presentation on his music at 12:30 pm in Room 124 of Harrison-LeCaine Hall. Gary Kibbins is a media artist and writer who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Queen’s University.
Gary Kibbins is a media artist and writer currently teaching at Queen’s University. He taught previously at the California Institute of the Arts. A collection of his essays and scripts titled Grammar & Not-Grammar is available from YYZ Books. Kibbins recently received the Images Festival Grand Prize, 2012 for the media work Girl Sitting on Blue Chair.
